| Delivering a sustainable conference in 2008 In addition to presenting a number of sessions on sustainable construction, the CRC for Construction Innovation will deliver a Conference that is more environmentally sustainable than past events by introducing a number of initiatives to minimise resource use and carbon emissions generated in the preparation and running of this event.
The CRC for Construction Innovation will work with Origin who will provide the carbon offset for emissions generated by on-site electricity and gas use and delegate travel (air, road, rail) to and from the Conference. Origin is actively involved in the renewable energy arena with initiatives in wind farms, geothermal energy, the research and development of solar cell technology, carbon reduction schemes and other offset products.
The Conference venue, Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort, has introduced initiatives to address waste and water management, recycling and water and energy consumption, and has been recognised for its efforts with several local and global environmental management and energy and water conservation awards. We encourage delegates to consider how they might reduce their carbon footprint, for example, by using public transport or sharing transport wherever possible when travelling to and from the Conference, and minimising energy and water consumption, ie: ensure lights and computers are turned off when not in use, limit water use, and maximise use of natural daylight in guest rooms. Please join with us in delivering a sustainable event.
